The Hursley Park Model Railway Society
Although titled "Hursley Park Model Railway Society", we do not restrict
our interests strictly to model-making. Many members have never picked
up a craft knife in their lives, but are interested in the real thing.
Similarly many IBMers join who have railway-mad offspring. All are
welcome, and we aim to cater for anyone who has an interest in railways
in particular or transport in general. Facilities available to members are:
Use of the society's own 'OO' gauge layout at the clubhouse.
Distribution of magazines. Our magazine subscriptions are under review, but they are currently:
- "Railway Magazine" A good read with a high standard of journalism on British railways containing information on all aspects of railways - history, the preservation scene, and current news and information.
- "Railway Modeller" Covers British railway modelling for people of all ages and interests, with plenty of advertisements and generally recognised as being 'middle of the road'.
- "Heritage Railway" Dedicated to all aspects of the heritage scene, whatever the gauge.
RAILDATE - an online newsletter which is sent to members of
Hursley Park Model Railway Society
every Friday. As well as keeping members aware of society matters, it
also serves as an information exchange, enquiry corner, diary of events
and a guide to the following week's TV and radio. The latest issue is
viewable here
complete with summaries of previous issues.
You can also subscribe to weekly issues through Yahoo!
Video and guest-speaker evenings.
Occasional visits to places of interest.
Use of:
- The large collection of magazines that has been built up over many years.
- The society's library of books and videos.
- Our collection of PC simulations.
- Specialised tools owned by the society. For example: miniature drill, airbrush compressor (2), locomotive testbed.
And all this for a ridiculously small amount of money! Subscriptions
this year are 6.00 UKP per annum (IBM) and 12.00 UKP (non-IBM
associate members).
